About The Ezell's Genealogy Page
Please sign in to see more. This site has been created in conjunction with our own family web site that we are working on and will be a powerful tool for our Genealogy research, development and general enjoyment. The developers of this site and our family web site are descendants of our father, William Lowery Ezell Jr., born July 18th, 1930 and our grandfather, William Lowery Ezell, born October 11th, 1895.
There seems to be a lot of ideas out there about where our name came from, and for now what I`m going with is the following:
The oldest known relative we`ve been able to trace is Timothy Ezell, dating back to 1668 where he first appeared as taxpayer in Surry County, Virginia (now known as Sussex County., Va.) and died about 1695. This was not his Christian French name. Ezell, Essell, Ezelle, Uzzell, etc. were names given to people who settled in Colonial Virginia from a small village of Ezalle, France. These people were all Huguenots (Protestants), followers of John Calvin who were being persecuted and massacred by the ruling Catholics. Ezalle, when anglesized, came to be known as Ezell, etc. As the search begins, we hope to make this page grow into a great place to come and discover just how intriguing a person`s genealogy can be! Most of all, as we take on this geat endeaver, if you have photographs, GEDCOM`s, or any other proven source of informatio that could help us build on our geneaology search, PLEASE contact us through the E-mail or Guestbook resources. We want to thank you for visiting us here. Please feel free to come again or leave with us any comments or suggestions that you may have. God Bless and have a GREAT DAY!!
